MOTHER'S LOVE

"Jennifer; What are you thinking" my mom inquired
bringing my reverie to a halt. I had been busy staring at my
surrounding sitting at the edge corner of a petite corridor which
protruded a certain kind of warmth which I had not felt in a long
while.

Dad died when I was barely five years old and we had creditors calling
day and night. Apparently, he borrowed a lot of money to the save the
company from suffering similar fate as the london bridge in the
nursery rhyme.
Nonetheless, he heeded nature's call without paying the bank and
other creditors.

At his passing, mom had to sell the house, company and cars
to settle the debts. Lack succeeded the bid and sales in that myself
and mom became caravans moving from one town to another for seven
years before mom got a job as a P.A in a brothel. Mom's account of
been the big madam's P.A was soon rebuffed as I later got to know the
truth.

One sunny day, I came back from school earlier than usual and found
her in bed with a man and several others on a queue just outside her
door waiting for their turn. Not able to contain the sight of that
which I beheld, I ran outside where I wept bitterly. After a while mom
came around and explained how she had no choice but to do the job. She
said she wanted me to study and become responsible later in life.

I accepted her explanation but hated seeing those men and how
they mal- handled her in the process. I always felt angry. However,
my anger was not aimed at the kind of job but because I knew she was
selling her body just so I could be somebody.

Nonetheless, luck soon smiled at us when mom got a real job as the
manager of a restaurant in texas. As I recalled these events, I
couldn't keep tears at bay. "Oh! baby please don't cry" mom echoed.
I'm sorry mum. I'm sorry for everything you went through because of me
I said with tears rolling down my cheeks.

She hugged me and for the first time in years, I felt at home. I
finally had a place I could call my home. Heaven's replica on earth,
my home where I plan to live with the best and most important person
in my life; my mom. The woman that went through hell just to see me
protected and responsible.

I will forever be grateful to her, she is my only family.
