ARE WE REALLY FREE?

On the first of October 1960, Nigeria witnessed a change in
power, a hand over of power from her colonial masters and these we
call "INDEPENDENCE".

Independence? After over fifty years dating from the first of October
can we really say we are independent?

Par-adventure the foundation of our national brouhaha need be
understood by defining what it means to be independent.

To be independent is to be free from external control, not
dependent on others for source of lively hood, capable of thinking and
acting for one's self and also been accountable for actions, conducts
etc.

Its germane to elucidate that no man, and nation can be truly
independent as we cannot exist as an island. The process of existence
involves communal interaction which in turn promulgates development.
However, as a nation (Nigeria) with affinity of being an independent
state. Judging from our experience since the advent of independence
can we respond positively to the question "ARE WE REALLY FREE?"

Freedom from the influence of external coordination, Freedom in
maturity which enhance(s) good decision making, Freedom in promoting
and developing good initiatives which could raise the ranking of the
nation in the aspect(s) of technology, education, industrialization,
communication amongst others.

ARE WE REALLY FREE?

From the military to the civilian government, Civilian down to
the much celebrated democracy. Democracy which is supposed to be a
system of government which uplifts total representation of all
citizens of the nation.
Popularly defined as the government OF, FOR and BY the people.

At its inception and practice for decades can we, with the prevailing
state of our nation give a positive answer to the question?

The question now is

Are our leaders independent?
Are our ministers independent?
Are our legislators independent?
Is the judiciary independent?
Are our institutions independent?

As a nation are we independent?

IS NIGERIA INDEPENDENT?
